I'm involved in a few "writing outlets" that give me some room to jot down thoughts, questions, insights, goof-ups, etc. While this blog has taken over most of that duty, I still enjoy interacting with folks - mostly on email lists.
- There's the 1J13 List, where we've been writing back and forth over all kinds of topics for almost five years now. That's where I've fleshed out some of my ideas on sin, salvation, discipleship with people who have varying backgrounds. It's named for 1 John 1:3, just seeking to proclaim what we've seen and heard... well, read it. There's not alot of traffic there lately, and anything I think of to toss out is usually a re-hash of stuff we've already done. But it's good to know that there are still people looking forward to just reading what's on your mind, interested in being stretched and challenged together
- I also moderate the NKOC group, where we're reading the NEW KIND OF CHRISTIAN novels from Brian McLaren. We're reading the second one now, THE STORY WE FIND OURSELVES IN; almost done, and it's been a struggle to keep it moving on course. At the same time, I've enjoyed meeting so many new folks and getting their take on what it's all about
- Whew. I'm also on the ZBA list, once mostly for reading Zondervan books, but now open to anything, I think. We're reading Rick Warren's THE PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE. Not bad - but I don't like his emphasis on the destination of heaven & eternal life over the aspect of living a kingdom-life right now, but HEY that's me.
- I also get to write a bit for the church blog - Javabeans. I'm hoping that more of our "team" will start writing over there, too
