The State | 01/25/2004 | Honor rolls under fire at Nashville schools
The following is an imaginative fictional account of the phone conversation that led to these decisions:
- Yes, sir - I'm tired of my middle schooler being singled out as stupid... No, sir, he's never on the honor roll like all those other smart kids, and the feedback he gets from the bullying and oppressive kids who actually study is giving him a complex... I don't think me making him study will help, no - as a matter of fact, I'm just glad he's off of my hands for six hours a day. But this is too much... Yes, sir, he is failing many of his subjects, and that is what's keeping his name off the honor roll, but that's not his fault... no, not at all, since the teachers are giving tests that are too difficult and homework that actually has to be done every night... Thank you, sir, and I hope I do not have to bring this up with the PTA again next month... That's right, the parents of the other stupid kids make a significant voting bloc, and if we could figure out the by-laws, we'd overrun the school board... You, too - have a nice evening.
